SnoopStation is the most accomplished public directory on the internet offering the complete background check of any individual by checking through all the public records directories like criminal and civil records, sex offender records, prison and inmate records, bankruptcy records, marriage records, divorce records, birth records, adoption records, death records, wanted criminals records, reverse cell phone lookups, reverse address search, corporate background checks, credit reports and many other sources of data. It offers free and instant background check for anyone within the United States of America. Every individual has its public records since the time he takes birth. The birth department has the complete information about the parents of the person, the date of birth and the residence address etc. The person grows up and joins any educational institutions on the basis of his past records. Now the record of educational institution is also added along with his basic information. The informative records run everywhere wherever he asks to obtain any document or information and all the record continue to grow. The person gets married, again some more informative records are being added along with earlier records and by the time he dies his name and other necessary information is being recorded at so many places. Most record maintaining places are public offices whose job is to maintain the record and other necessary information about all the people. Thus the public records of any particular region offer all the information about a person if he belongs to that place. There are many websites claiming to offer the <a onClick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(’/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.snoopstation.com/”>complete background check</a> of a person but most of them fail to provide the desired information except some commercial that are well connected with the public records of that area. Normally all the commercial websites are charging a sizable fee as they also have to pay to obtain those information but they offer valuable genuine information since they are charging. They also conduct criminal record search of any individual to see his involvement into any type of crime. If the records are not maintained online in any place then they apply their source and dig out the information by paying to the public record enquiry.
Many times a person has only his cell number as his identification. If the number is listed into the directory of service provider but if the number is not listed then one has to take the services of a powerful search engine like Google and run a search using reverse cell phone lookups. The result offers many websites claiming that they can offer the services to find out the details about that cell number but most of them would not offer more than the area code and other unwanted information. Only few reputed commercial sites will be able to provide the right information by charging their fees as they have to obtain the information other service providers and public records.

When Thomas Edison invented the phonograph on August 12, 1877, little did he know just how much influence his “Talking Machine” would have, not only in the music industry, but in pop culture as well. Records are a part of the music of the ages and it is up to us as individuals and retailers, not only to enjoy our favorite recordings, but to preserve them as well; thus Vinyl Record Day was born.

Vinyl Record Day (http://www.VinylRecordDay.org) is celebrated on August 12th (or the first Saturday following the 12th) and was conceived and brought to the forefront by vinyl enthusiast and vinyl record historian Gary Freiberg. I spoke with Gary about the meaning of Vinyl Record Day and how we can help to as individuals and what retailers can do to help preserve this timeless medium and international treasure.

”Vinyl Record Day is about celebrating vinyl records and the public should take notice of this special day. Invite friends and family over for a barbeque, maybe form a block party and play records, think records and talk about records and what they mean to each of us individually and culturally,” explained Gary.

Gary went into further detail, “Whatever the feel good aspects of Vinyl Record Day are, a retailer will ask how will this help my bottom line? Vinyl Record Day can get free publicity, it puts a good face on a business within their community and is a reason to have something special at the location: a parking lot sale, entertainment, store specials are great examples. I would hope the industry would become more involved with Vinyl Record Day so that, not only are the goals of Vinyl Record Day spread, but that people trying to make all or part of their living with vinyl could be part of an industry and not scattered individuals. We need to have a cohesive national impact as the milk industry did with their “Got Milk” campaign. I truly believe that Internet and traditional brick store owners could benefit financially, and in the case of brick store owners, in their communities by being part of Vinyl Record Day. Another important goal of Vinyl Record Day is to preserve the cultural influences, the recordings and the cover art. We also hope to increase awareness that economics prevents companies from transferring everything on to compact discs.”

A very dynamic and immensely important point Gary talked about is that only 5% of our musical history has been transferred to cd, so it is our responsibility to preserve this medium. Maybe your grandfather, sibling or cousin released a record and, although it may have not made the “top ten,” it is our music and some of these wonderful recordings cannot be found anywhere else. For instance, I own a vinyl copy of a Spiro Agnew speech and one of our most revered presidents John F. Kennedy has released several recordings, as have other influential and historical figures.

Additionally, Vinyl Record Day is a nonprofit organization that aims to educate the public and encourage all of us to preserve these international audio treasures. It is also a marketing opportunity for any vinyl record retailer.

”Vinyl Record Day is focused on educating the public that this timeless medium is in our hands, don’t leave the preservation of vinyl to fate. Vinyl records represent historical audio documents and just as we preserve historical literature, we are the custodians of this audio history. Vinyl Record Day is more than one day a year set aside for celebration, it is also for the industry itself,” acknowledged Gary. “

We also discussed past celebrations, from the inaugural Vinyl Record Day in San Luis County, California and the international support and attention that Vinyl Record Day receives as well.

”Vinyl Record Day hopes to continue to educate the public on why and how to care for a record collection because these collections are not only a part of who we are individually, but to assure that future generations will not lose a vital link in recorded history,” related Gary.

As an avid vinyl record collector, I truly enjoyed my conversation with Gary, who is very passionate about the cause. Vinyl Record Day is a nonprofit organization that needs the help of all of us, consumers, collectors, musicians, retailers as well as the record companies. So, as you celebrate Vinyl Record Day this August, think about the history, preservation of the format and enjoyment you receive when listening to your favorite records. For more information and how you can help as an individual, please visit the website, http://www.VinylRecordDay.org and let Gary know that you endorse all of his efforts.

(You may even donate your record collection to Vinyl Record Day and you can receive full value as a tax write-off. Vinyl Record Day needs money to promote, not only Vinyl Record Day, but can help retailers in their own business endeavors)

An important consideration when looking to set up a ‘home recording studio’ is how you will use it. You will need to work out how many things you want to record or plug in at any one time or you might wind up with uneccessary gear-or not enough!

Let’s look at a typical example of ‘Vinnie’ the guitarist who has a desire to show his ‘band’ how the songs should be played.

No matter how many times he’s tried to explain, they never quite get it right, so the only way he can see to achieve this is to record it all ‘properly’ himself.

What does Vinnie need?

He needs to record a basic drum pattern – nothing fancy – he wants to record two electric guitars, an acoustic guitar, he wants to record a bass guitar and record a main vocal and two backing harmonies.

Vinnie of course will not do all this at once, so even though he needs to record 9 things does he need 9 channels?

No.

All he really ‘needs’ is a maximum of 4 inputs- two with pre-amps. He will also need a microphone to sing into and to record his acoustic guitar, we will asume he has a guitar amp simulator to record the electric guitars and bass and that he has a physical drum machine or one inside his computer or stand alone hard disc recorder.

Vinnie could easily walk down to his music store or get online and find what he needs to get the job done. He could look at a computer recording package with appropriate software and specialised sound card for audio recording. Some companies provide these all in one packages Lexicon, M-Audio, Pro-Tools and Presonus are good brand names to look at as a starting point, but be aware that recording onto a computer can be a frustrating experience if you’re not computer savy.

Vinnie’s other alternative is the stand alone hard disc recorder with a built in mixer section. Any of the offereings from Fostex, Yamaha or Boss/Roland would take care of his needs, at this point Vinnie just wants to get his ideas onto the physical plain as quickly as possible so others can hear them- so he’ll probably need a CD burner thrown in to the equation unless his machine can link up to a computer-as a number of them now can do.

Now let’s look at another example of Barabra who plays in a four piece folk/rock group. They want to record a couple of songs for CD release. All the instruments her band uses are acoustic; Double Bass, Violin ,Guitar and Banjo.

Three of the group also sing. Now Barabara is lucky enough to have a large secluded garage space available for her group to rehearse in and given they don’t annoy the neighbours by making too much noise she wishes to record the band as a ‘whole’ for the best vibe-what will she need?

4 X Instrument Microphones or D.I. [direct injection] boxes

3 X Vocal microphones

8 inputs with Microphone Preamps

Capacity to record on 8 channels at once.

There are some limitations with stand alone recorders, some of them will only let you record on 2 channels at once, another thing to be aware of is the ‘quality’ of the recordings.

Some years ago during the ‘compression algorythm’ wars, clever boffins discovered that our ears can ‘fill in’ missing information, in the same way that you can look at the scrambled letters of a word but are still able to decipher what it is.The boffins kept removing bits of what our ear was hearing until they came up with a formula [algorythm] that fooled our ears most of the time. These are known as ‘compressed’ formats as they ’squish’ the sound in such a clever way that we don’t notice.

Almost all commercial and home recording computer software will record ‘linear’[non-compressed] files to your computer hard disc. Pro-tools,Logic Audio, Cubase, Sonar all do this. Later on when you ‘mix-down’ your songs you can turn them into mp3 files for podcast or to load to your portable digital music player. Adobe Audition and Steinberg’s Wavelab are two programs I can think of that record direct mp3 files- but they are not ‘full function’ multitrack programs.

When we deal in compressed formats- mp2 mp3 etc, ‘unneccessary’ information is removed making the file sizes smaller [and hence downloads faster]- so these are ‘compressing’ the files. The advantage for the home recordist is that less hard disc space is needed.

A consideration when looking at stand alone recorders is to ask the question- do I want compressed or uncompressed audio. If you have any intention of turning these recordings into something for release then the uncompressed format is the best- you will lose some quality by using a compressed format, but your ideas will be captured quickly for you to work on later. Also bear in mind that a number of hard disc recorders can later transfer data to a computer software system for more elaborate processing so if you use a non-compressed recording format you will retain the quality of your recording.

Now when Barabara popped down the music store to express her needs she told the sales person that, “she wants a high quality recording of her group but I have no idea about computers” so the salesman suggests a stand alone unit with eight inputs that records the data in a non-compressed format. As she doesn’t have a huge budget she chooses to hire in most of the microphones for this recording session. The man at the shop suggests she uses condensor microphones for the instruments and dynamic Shure sm58’s for the vocals.

A crucial quality consideration at this point is the ‘pre-amp’. What does that do and why is it so important you ask?

After your microphone has done the incredible job of sorting out sound pressure waves and converting them into electrical signals, they arrive via microphone cables at the ‘pre-amp’-a short way of saying pre-amplifier. For years I struggled to really ‘get’ what a pre amp did, unitl I understood this:

When the microphone puts out a signal it is very very very very tiny. I now call this ‘mouse level’. Once it’s gone through a pre amp it becomes ‘elephant level’, something that our mixing consoles and digital recorders can use easily.

Hear this:

Depending on the quality of the compoments used, this amplification process can make or break the quality of the recorded sound. A bad pre-amp will add hiss and noise to your recording

Most stand alone recorders and computer sound card interfaces have ‘adequate’ microphone preamps. To make your recordings ’shine’ I would suggest getting an ‘outboard’[separate component] pre-amp, though having said that the pre-amps in high end Yamaha consoles are gaining a very good reputation. Focusrite/Joe Meek/Avalon/Tc Electronics are great brands. Currently I use a Focusrite Twin-Trak pro, a device specifially for home recording enthusiasts.

To sum up, our friend Vinnie will probably be quite happy with an off the shelf hard disc recorder with 4 or so inputs that records ‘compressed’ files because he is only trying to show his band colleagues a ‘rough’ idea of how he hears things.

Barbara who is not computer savy is looking for a more polished end product and wants to record her group in the best quality for a CD the band will release, hence she needs to record ‘linear’ [non-compressed] data and will look for a unit with the best quality pre-amps she can buy.

Digital Voice Recorders

Gone are the days when you used the audio tape to record the voice. The all new digital voice recorders have made all to forget the conventional tape and has offered us more features than we can use. So a tape is now obsolete and has been taken over by the digital voice recorders. This small gadget has been quite useful since its launch and a great boon for professionals as well. So if there is a need to record voice, a digital voice recorder is what you should look for.

The digital voice recorders come as a handy solution for the busy business people who need to record notes, meetings, and ideas that can create a fuss if a tape would be used, instead of the digital voice recorder. A digital voice recorders is not all about recording voice, but it also has the capability to record and transfer information to your computer, making it easier to organize, edit and play back your voice files wherever you want.

With the increasing popularity of the digital voice recorders, there are many leaders in the electronics industry like Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, LG that provide the best digital voice recorders. But while buying a digital voice recorder, there are a few aspects involved in the selection of the best that you need to understand beforehand. So lets understand what a digital voice recorder is all about.

Look for the recording time.

Many digital voice recorders boast of the recording time by claming the higher side of it. The recording time depends on the quality of recording and the higher the audio quality the lower the recording time would be. So rather than looking for a recorder that claims 300 Hrs of recording, look for the real picture of the recording time it can give with the highest quality.

Look for more storage options

Apart from voice files many digital voice recorders can store files, documents and images. These are equipped with the USB mass support class that helps them to store these files. Now with the storage comes the organizer, which is also an important feature to look for. Be sure that the digital voice recorder will store voice files in a minimum of three separate folders.

Look for voice recording features

The best of the digital voice recorders also exhibit many ?smart? features that help you with the operations. Some of the interesting features you can find in the latest digital voice recorders are voice activation, which stops recording automatically whenever there is a long pause, or the cue/review feature that make it easier for you to find a particular recording part you want to play back. It can also have a LCD screen for better operations. Some of the latest voice recorders also include software, which helps in converting the audio in a text file helping you with the transcription.

Look for connectivity

Like any other latest gadget the digital voice recorders are equipped with USB interface for PC connectivity. It helps a lot in transfer of files from the recorder to PC and vice versa.

Gone are the days when you used the audio tape to record the voice. The all new digital voice recorders have made all to forget the conventional tape and have offered us more features than we can use.

So a tape is now obsolete and has been taken over by the digital voice recorders. This small gadget has been quite useful since its launch and a great boon for professionals as well. So if there is a need to record voice, a digital recorder is what you should look for.

These new age voice recorders come as a handy solution for the busy business people who need to record notes, meetings, and ideas that can create a fuss if a tape would be used, instead of the voice recorder. A digital recorder is not all about recording voice, but it also has the capability to record and transfer information to your computer, making it easier to organize, edit and play back your voice files wherever you want.

With the increasing popularity of the digital recorders, there are many leaders in the electronics industry like Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, LG that provide the best voice recorders with the digital technology. But while buying a digital voice recorder, there are a few aspects involved in the selection of the best that you need to understand beforehand. So lets understand what a digital voice recorder is all about.

Look for the recording time.

Many voice recorders boast of the recording time by claiming the higher side of it. The recording time depends on the quality of recording and the higher the audio quality the lower the recording time would be. So rather than looking for a recorder that claims 300 Hrs of recording, look for the real picture of the recording time it can give with the highest quality.

Look for more storage options

Apart from voice files many digital recorders can store files, documents and images. These are equipped with the USB mass support class that helps them to store these files. Now with the storage comes the organizer, which is also an important feature to look for. Be sure that the digital recorder will store voice files in a minimum of three separate folders.

Look for voice recording features

The best of the voice recorders also exhibit many ’smart’ features that help you with the operations. Some of the interesting features you can find in the latest digital recorders are voice activation, which stops recording automatically whenever there is a long pause, or the cue/review feature that make it easier for you to find a particular recording part you want to play back.

It can also have a LCD screen for better operations. Some of the latest voice recorders also include software, which helps in converting the audio in a text file helping you with the transcription.

Look for connectivity

Like any other latest gadget the digital recorders are equipped with USB interface for PC connectivity. It helps a lot in transfer of files from the recorder to PC and vice versa.

With vinyl record sales up more than fifteen percent over last year’s totals (858,000 ‘units’ bought in 2006 versus 990,000 in 2007, according to Nielsen Soundscan), has the comeback of this historical audio medium reached its pinnacle? No one can say for sure, but one thing is certain, these sales figures are not a full indication of just what is happening in the ‘vinyl world’ and how many records have truly been sold.

These sales figures may be underestimated and under represent the exact sales figures because they don’t always include the sales at the smaller ‘indie’ record shops where vinyl does the best. I spoke with Virgil Dickerson, owner of one of these ‘indie’ record shops, SuburbanHomeRecords.com and Vinyl Collective (based in Denver, Colorado) about what he is noticing about the trend to go back to vinyl records.

”Certainly, my CD sales have dropped off, and I have seen an increase in the sales of our vinyl records. People want a tangible product to go along with their music. The record album artwork and the great sound of vinyl are also factors in the resurgence,” detailed Virgil. “Digital music lacks the ’soul’ of a record and there is almost a therapeutic ritual when you experience playing vinyl, the act of physically playing the record, the smell, turning the record over to hear the other side- are all factors as to why people are in love with the format.”

But, is the vinyl resurgence just a passing fad, what do you see for the future of the vinyl record?

”Some of our customers are what I term as ‘lifers,’ people who will buy records whether they are popular or not and may even have an extensive collection of records. And then there may be some that are just jumping on the ‘vinyl bandwagon,’ buying records to be cool or because they are popular now, but there will always be a place for vinyl within the music community,” said Virgil.

As previously noted, Virgil is the owner and operates Suburban Home Records, a record label that signs and releases music from bands from all over the world as well as Vinyl Collective, a unique vinyl friendly web store. And with such an eclectic array of musical genres to choose from including punk, alternative country, heavy metal, rock and roll and just about anything in between, his customer base is as varied as the musical styles that they offer.

We discussed some of the vinyl record formats that are being manufactured, including audiophile vinyl, picture discs, limited releases and colored vinyl.

”With regard to colored vinyl, we do it because we want each pressing to be distinctive. Colored vinyl is more prevalent now than, lets say, ten years ago and is highly sought after; people want it, so we appease our customers by releasing it,” explained Virgil. “We have some that are just one color, clear vinyl and we have added some with speckles and swirls.”

”Picture discs are also highly sought after as well, but are much more expensive per unit to manufacture. They are usually released with no jacket (they are kept in a clear re-sealable package) so that helps to reduce the cost. And the sound quality can fluctuate from good to bad depending on the pressing plant that is used. Audiophile records are more expensive as well, manufactured as 180-200 gram records instead of our norm, which is 140-160 grams,” said Virgil.

We also discussed the difference in sound quality between audiophile records and the normal standard vinyl releases.

”Audiophile records have a better sound quality because a higher grade of vinyl is used and the grooves are cut deeper into the vinyl, producing a much clearer sound. I would think that they are also less susceptible to scratching and scuffing and withstand the normal wear and tear that a record gets form use, because of their thickness,” related Virgil.

We talked about ‘limited releases’ and why these are not only popular, but profitable as well.

”Well, instead of pressing, let’s say, 5,000 copies of a particular recording, we may only press 500. This helps to keep our costs down and collectors love this type of release; they will own an uncommon or rare record, which can affect the resale value of the record, depending on various factors such as the artist, condition etc.”

What other marketing ploys are utilized in the record business?

”We are starting to sign up bands for a 7″ ’split’ series. We will do a pre-order for each 7″ and have several artists already committed to the project including Chuck Ragan/Tim Barry, William Elliott Whitmore/Josh Small, Fake problems/Look Mexico, Rocky Votolato/Chad Price (of Drag the River), just to name a few. The artists will do a cover of a song that has influenced what they do today. We not only have our own artists from Suburban Home Records, but other record labels and artists as well. And this is not so much a marketing ploy, as it is a unique opportunity for artists to be heard by other fan bases that may have not heard of the artist before the split and may also introduce the listener to another kind of musical genre that they may not listen to. With luck, we hope to have customers be interested enough to collect the whole series,” detailed Virgil.

We have just met the man behind the scenes at Suburban Home Records/Vinyl Collective, one of hundreds of independent record labels that produce quality vinyl records and allow independent musicians to be heard by the masses. Why these sales are not tabulated with the ‘big box’ record stores or major labels is food for thought. But if Suburban Home Records/Vinyl Collective keeps releasing quality vinyl records, it is just a matter of time, before they too, will become a “major label” and be counted, as the sale of vinyl records continues to move upward.

Everyday it seems that we read about the resurgence in the sales of vinyl records. In fact, in a recently-released 2007 RIAA sales report, the American music industry sold 36.6 percent more Extended Play (EP) and Long Play (LP) records than it had in the previous year; increasing vinyl sales revenue by 46.2 percent.

And the world of collecting vinyl records is also reaping the benefits from this renewed interest in vinyl. But how does one place a value on these classic recordings, what is a rare record worth and what is the process for acquiring such information?

I spoke with vinyl record historian and record appraiser Scott Neuman, owner of www.forevervinyl.com about this dilemma and some of the obstacles one may encounter. But, first, let’s meet Scott and review his background.

Scott Neuman is a vinyl record veteran who started working in the music industry at an early age and has been a record collector/dealer/appraiser since 1975. He has been an on air disc jockey for several radio stations, worked in television as an announcer and cameraman and has also owned and operated a record store. And keeping up with the times, Scott was one of the first “online” record shops, operating www.forevervinyl.com; which boasts an inventory of well over 2 million records.

I asked Neuman about the renewed interest in vinyl records and the allure of vinyl.

”Listening to records used to be a time to be enjoy with a few friends, hang out, listen to the music and read the liner notes on the back,” explained Neuman. “Maybe you enjoyed the gatefold sleeves in a personal way, maybe you just enjoyed slipping the sealing material off the cover on your pants by rubbing the corner of the record on your knee, taking the record out, getting that little “pop” of static electricity and taking a slight sniff of the vinyl. Then lining up the needle on the record after cleaning it and sitting down to enjoy the fruits of your work. All of that is very hard to do with a CD or MP3. Records are personal, something to share with friends. Sure, CD’s are nice and so are MP3’s. But records force you to listen to them.”

And, what is the allure, and can you tell me about your record collection.

”The allure? For all the reasons above,” said Neuman. “All formats have their points. I just like handling vinyl. I was a DJ for years and used to use records to entertain in the Philadelphia and New York area. I didn’t just play records. We made a night of entertainment. As for the digital sound, I prefer the warmer sounds I get from vinyl.”

”I do have a music collection and my favorite items are not necessarily rare. I do have a large jazz collection from the 50’s in mint condition that I’m not ready to sell yet. These would be first pressings by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Monk, and a few others. I also have some rare Beatle items that I enjoy looking at including a first state ‘butcher’ cover and an “Introducing the Beatles” in excellent condition that isn’t counterfeit. I also appreciate Gold and Platinum RIAA award albums given to various artists, autographs by various artists and also Vogue picture discs which were picture discs pressed on 78 records. One more thing I enjoy owning are various acetates. These were one off pressings by artists used just for test and listening purposes and were normally destroyed after a final production of a product. You can sometimes hear alternate versions of your favorite songs. These items self destruct the more you play them so it’s wise to record them and put them away for safe keeping.”

Neuman is also one of the world’s most renowned vinyl record appraisers and offers this service on www.forevervinyl.com. There are many variables that go into what a particular record may be worth and I asked Neuman about the demand for this service and what makes a record valuable.

”Forever Vinyl gets more than twenty calls a day for customers looking for appraisals for estates and charity donations,” detailed Neuman. “As far as the elements of an appraisal, it depends on the needs of the customer. For donations, we draw a number of different elements to get the correct market value for your collection. We neither under nor over appraise your collection.”

What makes a record valuable?

”What makes a house value? Location, location, location. When it comes to records, demand, demand, demand. Age is not a determining factor in record collection, demand is,” stated Neuman.

What donating records to a charity, what are the main obstacles a person might encounter?

”There really aren’t any obstacles per say other then finding a non-profit entity to accept them. The IRS is very picky about fair retail market value as they should be. We should all pay our fair share of the tax burden. It’s important to understand that the IRS considers the value of a collection to be based on the value and use of the entity you are donating the collection to. If you donate the collection to a university, and they hold on to it for three years, possibly put it in their library and make the collection available to the students to learn from, the appraisal will normally stand. If you donate the collection to a thrift shop, the IRS will normally look at what the thrift shop sold the collection for and adjust any appraisal value over that amount. Needless to say, we highly recommend finding a charity that would value and use the collection rather then just dump the collection for pennies on the dollar.”

Tell me about your appraisal services that are offered at Forever Vinyl.

”As you know, many records are now valued in the hundreds and thousands of dollars. Because of the amount of appraisals that are requested per day, we’ve instituted a reasonable fee to cover our cost, time and expertise for these appraisals. Our current fee is $20.00 for the first item of the appraisal and $5.00 for each additional item. For collections with over 200 pieces, please call us 732-505-5337 for adjusted rates,” explained Neuman.

”All information must contain the following information- Artist, Title, Type of item, Condition (1 – 10 is fine with 10 looking like its brand new), Label and Label Number. If the item is a 45 single, does it have a picture sleeve? Also any other comments you’d like to make about the item. Examples could be if it’s a promotional or “Not for Sale” copy, if it’s a test pressing or acetate, if it’s autographed and so forth. If necessary, we can and will travel to your location. For those of you with larger collections, we do work on a rate of $200.00 an hour plus travel, food and lodging expenses, if you need us to come to you. This is only by appointment. Many of our customers have used this service. We also can accept items shipped to us for appraisal. Feel free to contact us for more information; we’d loved to help your put a value on your collection.”

So as the sales of vinyl records and the interest in this historic audio medium continue its upward trend, so too, will the need for vinyl record appraisals. Thankfully, we have vinyl record experts like Scott Neuman to help us put a value on our collections.

Music recording technology has come a long way from the earliest days of the mechanical phonograph cylinder and gramophone disk to magnetic tapes and digital recording. Recording engineering has now gained the status as the separate branch of science dealing with sound recording and reproduction.

Recent developments in music recording technology and editing have revolutionized the record, movie and television industries. Whether it is live musical performance, radio and television broadcasting, filmmaking, and recording music for selling (for example, CDs), all have to depend on sound recording and reproduction technology. To all major movie production houses, radio and TV stations, and musical groups have their in-house recording studio. The subject matter of recording music and reproducing it thorough diverse media is concerned with electrically or mechanically inscribing sound waves produced by spoken voice, singing, instrumental music, or various sound effects.

The two main divisions of music recording technology are analog recording and digital recording. Analog recording is achieved by means of diaphragm of a microphone that detects changes in atmospheric pressure created by audio sound waves, and records them graphically as sound waves on media such as a phonograph, a magnetic tape or a CD. The same process is inverted in reproducing or transmitting the music, when the diaphragm of a bigger loudspeaker modifies atmospheric pressure to form acoustic sound waves. Digital recording and reproduction uses the similar technology employed in analog process, the difference being the added digitization of the sound data and signals, allowing it to be stored and transmitted on a wider variety of media.

A Los Angeles Recording School, Musicians Institute has been established with the intention of imparting education in the area of recording arts. This recording college has developed a comprehensive recording program covering the entire gamut of learning the essentials of audio recording and reproduction. Individuals can learn audio recording at this institute and after passing out can find a career as an audio engineer or sound engineer. Audio engineers in general deal with the design, installation, and/or operation of sound recording, sound reinforcement, or sound broadcasting equipment, including large and small format consoles. In a recording studio setting, the audio engineer deals with recording, editing, manipulating, mixing, and/or mastering sound by technical means in order to realize an artist’s or record producer’s creative vision. While generally associated with music production, an audio engineer deals with sound for a wide range of applications, including post-production for video and film, live sound reinforcement, advertising, multimedia, and broadcasting. When referring to video games, an audio engineer may also be known as a computer programmer.
